Beef Brisket

One of our family's ALL TIME favorite recipes. It never takes long for this brisket to disappear.

Dry Rub:

  • 2 tablespoons of chili powder
  • 1 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 1 crushed bay leaf (I tend to add the bay leaf when I add the beef broth.)
Beef:
  • 4 pounds beef brisket (I have cooked up to 7.5 pounds of beef brisket with the above rub.)
  • 1 1/2 cup beef broth

PREPARATION

Step 1
Mix together to make a dry rub including the chili powder, salt,  garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, sugar, dry mustard and the crushed bay leaf.

Step 2
Sprinkle and apply the rub mixture to all sides of the brisket.  Place in a dutch oven or roasting pan and roast uncovered in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven uncovered for one hour.

Step 3
Add beef stock to make about 1/2 inch of liquid in the pan.  Then lower the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.  Cover the pan and cook for about three hours.
Step 4
To serve, Slice the meat across the grain.  Serve with juices from the pan.
